Rantings of a Lunatic

We just talked with the surgeon, and my mother is out of surgery and awake. She isn’t out of the woods yet, but the hard part is over. More details to follow later.

The liason from the surgical team has just stopped out and told us that everything went well, they are putting the bone plug back in, and they should finish everything up soon. We expect to have the doctors come talk to our family group in about 10-15 minutes.

Everything is progressing as expected, the incissions have been made, and the opening in the skull was successful, and they are working on the brain now.

My mom is through the Pre Op, and is now in surgery. Pre Op was an hour long process, but she is ready to go, at least thats what the board in the waiting room and the anesthesiologist are saying.

I am sitting in the waiting room with my immediate family, my mother’s sisters, and my girlfriend and sister in law. There is nothing that we can really do at this point other than sit and wait, the surgeons have told us that it should be a 4-8 hour procedure. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to see the real-time 3d models of my mother’s brain. I know the doctors have access to that, because thats what they were doing at the crack of dawn today. I have seen the MRI’s they took a week and a half or two weeks ago. They are interesting to look at, and make me wish I still had all the old scans of my broken arms and such.

Today was the last day in the office for me. I am on call over the weekend, and then I start my new job on Monday. However, the focus of my thoughts are not there right now. My mother goes into the hospital for a serious surgery tomorrow, and Kelly’s mother had one today. I am confident that everything will go well, but under the circumstances this is what I have to think about right now.
On a lighter note, I have almost caught up with listening to all my podcasts, I am only about 700 posts behind in my RSS feeds, and I have my cooking and fishing skills over 400 on my new main in WoW. I think the cooking is close to 418, but I don’t know for sure, as I am in Houston for a few days.
