Well, I promised a review, and honestly I liked it so much that I have been holding off so that I wouldn’t have to give any spoiler alerts. And until I really write what I think, and can feel free doing so while talking in specifics, see Ken’s blog. I completely dis-agree with him about Batman Begins. I loved that movie, and I think at the time that was probably my favorite Batman movie. Just awesome. But he is right on every point on the new one. And honestly, I hadn’t ever been bothered by Bale’s voice in the last one, but in this one it really caught me as just too much.
Cue Ice Cube. To start off, I was apprehensive and a little nervous about today when I got up. This mostly stems from the fact that I had been “invited” to the management meeting this morning at work by the General Manager yesterday. And as he “invited” me, he made the passing comment to “dress nice”. Now, I must admit he added that he was just joking, and that yesterday I was dressed a little more casually than I normally do, but I was in need of doing the laundry. It has probably been a little while since I have worn a button down shirt, I think I have been wearing polos more than anything recently, and I wear jeans almost always. So this morning I got up and took a shower, etc. and proceeded to dress nicely. I put on my pinstripe suit with a dark striped shirt and a tie. I never wear a tie to work. Well, I say that, and today was actually my one year anniversary at work, and I think it was the second time I have worn a tie to work. The previous time I did it just to shake people up. And I headed in to work early, and was in my office with the coffee made right at 8. The management meeting started at 9, so I had plenty of time to make sure that putty was installed on the laptop I would bring with me, and I even had time to head down to the news room to help out Jackie, the new morning web content producer before the meeting. That’s what the email to the office said. And I told them my phone was off, its time for me to relax. And by relax I mean sit in line to get into the Imax theater to watch Batman. I figured this is one of those movies I can skip the beer on for the quality of the theater/screen. The movie starts at 9:15, so I don’t expect to get out before 12:30, and then another 30 minutes before we get home, so the review will probably wait until tomorrow.
When I left work yesterday, I stopped by the grocery store to get some things I needed, which put me home at the appropriate time to talk to my neighbor.
I had needed to ask him about a trash can that appeared by our front door the other day. We missed the trash men last Thursday, but when I got home from work there was another trash can in our yard, as if someone had seen it rolling down the street and thought it was ours because it does look like ours, though ours have our house number painted on them. He wanted to ask and make sure that it was ours. After the discussion, we started talking about motorcycles, because he rides one and I have been looking to get one. So we talked about them for a little while and he let me sit on his and try to lift it. He rides a honda shadow saber, which is an 1100cc V-twin that has a windshield and bags and loud pipes. That bike weighs about 600 pounds stock, and probably weighs about 650 - 700 pounds now. Needless to say that is a heavy bike. It is one more person who is definately recommending a honda motorcycle. He also let me try on of his helmets, which was good, because he had a half-helmet that fit great and was a medium, but when I took my MSF class I needed a large or extra large on the full-face helmet I wore. I am not ready to buy a bike just yet, but my neighbor said when I got one he would go ridding with me, which is cool.
I had been considering a Kawasaki, mostly considering the Vulcan 500, but I do have a good recommendation for a KLR 650, which is a long range dual-sport bike. I am mostly looking for a cruiser style bike, but the dual-sport has some nice off-road capabilities, if I were to go camping more often that might be nice. I think am going to head up to Woods Fun Center in a few days and see what they have that I can sit on and feel the weight of. I am really wanting to stay in the 500 - 650 range, but if I can get a 750 for a decent price that’s not necessarily out of the question. I am specifically interested in getting good gas mileage, but I do want to enjoy the bike, and eventually I would want it to have the power to ride with Kelly on it as well.
