Gall’s Law and other updates
I found this on Daring Fireball, and realized that this is the sort of quote I wished I had been able to spout so many times when people were coming up with their functional wishlists as I was just the developer there to make the multimedia app work. It is so simple, and it makes so much sense. I have known it, but I was never able to massage the words together so elloquently.
???A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked??.A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work. You have to start over, beginning with a working simple system.???

So, as an update, I geeked out a bit last night. I sat on the couch and animated for a while. I am developing a pretty trick little site for a client of mine, and will link to it when its done. It will include all the bells and whistles, like xml data import, and modularity. WooHoo. Plus, all of the modules are like mini design canvases, so its just fun. Anyway, after completing another minianimation, I sat back, and realized that I didn’t have a web browser for my XBoX. So I remedied that problem. I got a copy of Linx that had been compiled against the xdk, and bingo, there I am surfing the internet on my xbox. Now, its not a great browser, and after using it for a few minutes, I am fairly positive that I will never use it for much, similar to the basically worthless browser on my cell phone. However, I have removed the stigma attached with not having a browser on my xbox. So, after the 30 seconds of fascination wore off, I found myself browsing around locally on my xbox, looking to see which other apps might need updating, and accidentally clicked on the MAME app. Man, that can be a big mistake. About an hour and a half later, I realized it was getting pretty late, although I had played a good amount of Gallaga, (and Gallaga 3, which isn’t as good), and I had rocked I don’t know how many boards of Ms. Pacman. Now, I don’t remember playing Ms. Pacman as a kid, guess because the 5 pixels of red at the top were supposed to make it a girl, and that would make playing the game wrong, but I had a blast. I remember playing Pacman World or whatever it was called a few years ago, where you run around in a 3D environment eating the little balls, and jumping over ravines, but it was nowhere near as fun as the oldschool classics. It almost makes me want to look into setting up a MAME cabinet. I had a friend Scott who did it a few (5+ probably) years ago, so I know it could be done. But, I have a few other things higher up on my priority list.
