Well, with the new year upon us, I have decided to go get some upgraded browsers.
Camino 1.0b2
Camino is probably the best browser around for the mac. It is the native OS X port of the Mozilla Firefox browser. And, thankfully this release has fixed the issue that I had been having with one site I maintain, so, guess I am back to using Camino as my main browser. Safari is ok, and I won’t uninstall it, but it has nothing on Camino.
Firefox 1.5
Firefox is a decent app, and it has some nifty plugins in it. I have it, and use it mainly for dev work, because I have it set to destroy all cache/cookies/etc. This is not my main browser, because it doesn’t respect a couple of key commands that I really like, such as “Skip to the bottom” (⌘+↓) or “Skip to the bottom” (⌘+↑).
Opera 8.5
Opera is an interesting browser. (Interesting is the word people use when they mean bad, but wanna say good.) Anyway, I don’t use it often, but its always nice to be able to view a site in a different browser, and from what I remember, Opera is supposed to be wickedly accurate when it comes to W3C standards. And its loyal supporters claim its the fastest thing this side of thought. I just upgraded from 6.0, so, I might play with it more and see if I begin to like it. I am open to experimentation.
Internet Explorer 5
Well, I laughably put this in here, because if you want it, you better get it now. It will cease to be available for download at the end of the month, and it has already reached the end of life, receiving no further support or development. “It is recommended that Macintosh users migrate to more recent web browsing technologies such as Apple’s Safari.” -Microsoft.com
Safari RSS
I am including this just so that people who don’t have it have the opportunity to look at its features, but if you can run it, you already have it.
There are others of course, such as Omniweb and iCab but I do not use them, and can not say more than that. Also, don’t forget to make sure any plugins you may use are up to date.
